Safety Policies

Jazz dance (Balboa, Lindy, Shag, etc) is an athletic activity. This workshop will contain uptempo music and movements to such music. Please acknowledge you are participating at your own risk, FFF PDX and Dance with Joy studios cannot be liable for your injuries. We do try our best to advocate for safe dance practices and ban aerials at our events.

We survey participants if they have severe food allergies and will do our best to announce it to the other participants to not bring such foods to the venue. You do have the reporting duty, and be aware that FFF PDX and Dance with Joy studios cannot be held liable if any participant still end up bringing such foods to the venue.

We do not allow pets or emotional support animals to events held by FFF PDX at Dance with Joy studios.

We do not allow unsupervised minors at events held by FFF PDX at Dance with Joy studios. For a supervised, non-participating minor, please email keepbalweird@gmail.com for case-by-case approval.

We (FFF PDX) and Dance with Joy studios reserve the right to remove any individual displaying disturbing or harmful behaviors at any time of the event. Their pass will not be refunded.

Help us keep you & others safe from injuries by following these basic guidelines:

--Please remove your street shoes in the sitting area.

-- Please wear suede or leather-soled dance shoes for classes and dances if you have them.

--Do NOT wear Sticky shoes. They include: tennis shoes, rubber soles shoes

Reason: Balboa is a shuffle dance that has lots of rotational elements. We don't have the best healthcare system and we want to protect your knees.

For Balboa, you want shoes that will allow you to slide & turn easily, so the less grip the better!

The following types of shoes are prohibited:

- NO stilettos or other spiked heels. Not only are these inappropriate and dangerous footwear for swing dancing, they also tend to gouge and dent floors. Thick, sturdy dance heels are ok.

- No home-made duct tape soles.  

- No tap shoes. 

• We welcome newcomers of all ages and backgrounds.

• Dancers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

• Avoid unnecessary political or religious debates.

• Please avoid wearing strong fragrances to keep our space accessible for those with sensitivities.
